IN BRIEF – WHAT IS IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most effective form of assisted reproductive technology. One cycle takes about two weeks, culminating in multiple eggs being retrieved (via IVF anesthesia) from a woman’s ovaries and fertilized with sperm outside the woman’s body. The fertilized eggs, now embryos, are then implanted back into the woman’s uterus three to five days after fertilization occurs.

WHO SHOULD CONSIDER IVF?

IVF is generally the fastest route to a successful pregnancy. It is best for:

  • women or couples who have been unsuccessful with IUI
  • women with age-related infertility (age 35+)
  • women with blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
  • women with fertility disorders like endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • men with poor sperm quality
  • couples with unexplained infertility

WHAT IS IVF PROCESS?

ovarian stimulation1.OVARIAN STIMULATION

Ovarian stimulation with IVF is accomplished when for two weeks you self-administer a hormone which directly stimulates the development of the ovarian follicles. Eggs are retrieved directly from these follicles.

EGG RETREIVAL2.EGG RETRIEVAL

During this short procedure we use ultrasound guidance to remove eggs from the ovarian follicles. On the same day, your partner provide’s a fresh semen sample from our lab. There, the best-quality of sperm is extracted.

EMBRYO3.EMBRYO DEVELOPMENT

Immediately after the eggs are retrieved, our embryologists combine them with the sperm sample for fertilization. Once fertilized, the eggs become embryos and are then transferred to our incubators, where they will grow in strength.

YOUR EMBRYO SELECTION4.EMBRYO SELECTION

Our team of embryologists and scientists use several criteria to assess embryo quality and decide which to choose for embryo transfer. Your embryos are evaluated to ensure we use the healthiest ones that give you the best chance for success.

YOUR EMBRYO TRANSFER5.EMBRYO TRANSFER

After 3-5 days of growth, Dr. Hade will transfer embryos into the uterine cavity using a small tube that is inserted through the cervix. After two weeks, you will take a pregnancy test and our fertility team will provide your results as soon as we receive them!

ENHANCED SCIENTIFIC TEAM6.SINGLE EMBRYO TRANSFER

Because we know that the transfer of 2+ embryos is associated with multiple pregnancy, our first choice is to transfer just one embryo and freezing the remainder.. The greatest chance for a successful outcome comes from a singleton pregnancy.
